With artists wasting little time in getting back into the swing of things, here’s our rundown of the tracks that you need to be checking out this week.

STATIC UNION

Clambering up the ranks of Glasgow’s music scene in recent years, Static Union have made it all too evident that they’ve got their sights set on a massive 2017 with the release of the ambitious ‘Turn Out The Lights.’ An immediate and riff-laden outing which pulls no punches whatsoever, it is the sound of a young band that’s beginning to cast aside their embryonic form and truly come into their own.

BRUISING

Hailing from Leeds, Bruising’s musical outlook is an enticing mixture between muscular, 90’s indebted riffs and an air of delicacy which permeates through the haziness of each chord and vocal take. First impressing with the rousing ‘I Don’t Mind’, their status as a very exciting proposition has been cemented with the release of the touching ‘What It Feels Like’. Set to be released as part of a special split “7 alongside Personal Best, the track serves as a fantastic introduction to their fuzzy, thought-provoking take on reality.

SAMPHA

A man that has impressed at every turn since his awe-inspiring croon first captured hearts, minds and imaginations on SBTRKT’s 2011 debut, this year appears to be the time in which Sampha becomes a household name across the world. The owner of the kind of  emotive voice which  could attempt to equal or replicate, the excitement for his upcoming full length debut may have been sparked by tracks such as ‘Timmy’s Prayer’ and ‘Blood On Me’ but the heartfelt ‘No One Knows Me (Like The Piano) has surpassed all of them.

WHITE KITE

A mixture of restlessness and precision, London’s White Kite elicit a sound which strikes an intoxicating balance between the smoothness of contemporary R&B and invigorating synth-pop. A four piece are keen to push the boundaries of genre and invention, new track ‘Swans’ deals with the conflict between pursuing romance and lust over  a refreshingly disorientating beat.

DIET CIG

The toast of many music blogs since they first rose to prominence in 2015, Diet Cig have once again gripped our attention with the announcement of their debut album and brand new track ‘Tummy Ache.’ Filled with the whimsical energy that has long drawn fans towards their sound, this year could well be the timeframe in which the duo make their ascendancy towards the dizzying heights of alt-rock’s elite.
