ALTHOUGH the doomsday clock may be sitting at a panic-inducing two and a half minutes to midnight in the wake of the world being thrown into abject turmoil, at least we can find solace in the swathes of great new music that’s arrived over the past week. Ranging from the world’s hottest artists to a a string of acts that are on the precipice of bursting through the glass ceiling and into wider acclaim, here’s the tracks that are more than capable of shepherding you through this tumultuous time.

Father John Misty- Ballad Of The Dying Man

One man whose creativity has been galvanised by the state of the earth is Joshua Tillman, otherwise known as Father John Misty. More renowned for his audacious take on love, romance and hedonism than for biting social commentary, this appears to be set to change with the upcoming arrival of his new record Pure Comedy. Taking aim at everything from the public’s apathetic approach to the crises which plague the world to our infatuation with social media and much more, his latest offering ‘Ballad Of The Dying Man’ is biting, sardonic and everything that his legion of fans love him for.

Pronto Mama- Arabesque

A track which we had the privilege of premiering last week, Pronto Mama’s immensely entertaining ‘Arabesque’ encapsulates all that makes them defiantly stand out from Scotland’s fruitful scene. In an industry filled with artists paying homage to their favourite artists and at times producing carbon copies of their tracks, Pronto Mama have accomplished the nigh on impossible feat of being peerless and original within today’s landscape and this first single from their forthcoming debut attests to that completely.

The Vryll Society- Sacred Flight

Tipped by tastemakers across the land as one of the heirs to Britain’s longstanding psychedelic heritage, The Vryll Society have thoroughly impressed since they first made their presence known in 2015. Aiming for a massive year as their acclaim continues to grow, latest track ‘Sacred Flight’ is a gripping mix of desert born rock and distinctly British pop sensibility. A track of grand proportions which sounds as though it could’ve been birthed in the uninhibited and drug-addled universe of a Hunter S Thompson story, their position among the leaders of the new wave of the UK’s psychedelic spectrum is firmly secured with this latest outing.

Circa Waves- Fire That Burns

Emerging from the studio with a new attitude and sense of purpose, Circa Wave are back with authority on the seething ‘Fire That Burns.’ Filled with aggression and discontent, the previously released ‘Wake Up’  proved to be indicative of their newly calibrated direction and ‘Fire That Burns’ expands on this groundwork with aplomb. Brooding and contemplative, it hurtles forward at a steadily increase before erupting in a hail of emotive vocals and visceral guitar hooks.
