WITH line-ups for inner-city events and festivals arriving thick and fast, acquainting yourself with the finest new artists  around is of paramount importance. As bills keep growing and growing, it’s essential that you know how to navigate your way around and find those gems that may otherwise go undiscovered. With that in mind, here’s our rundown of the best tracks from both established and lesser known artists that have made their way to our ears this week.

Ride- Charm Assault

Confidently deviating from the sound of their classic material, the former shoegaze pioneers are back with a different tact and a renewed sense of purpose. Taking aim at the corruption that resides at the heart of our society, ‘Charm Assault’ is fittingly named and makes no bones about calling out their targets over a series of hard-edged riffs. Fleshed out with indignant vocals and an incensed manner that is a far cry from the ornate beauty of ‘Vapour Trail’ or ‘Twisterella’ but marks a brave new evolution for the famed group.

DOMICILES- 100 Miles

One of Scotland’s most mentally stimulating bands, Domiciles’ sound is designed to keep you on your toes whilst simultaneously transporting you to a psychedelic dimension of their own devising. Equal parts 60’s psych and 80’s dream pop, the band have crafted their own lane and this special sound has consistently yielded fantastic results. Their latest work ‘100 Miles’ is a reconfiguration of an older track and demonstrates how far they’ve came since their tentative first steps. A thrilling composition from start to finish, it lures you in with a mixture of delicate vocals and the wonderfully dizzying haze of its instrumentation.

Family Friends- New

Formed of sibling duo Tom and Rebecca Fitzsimons, Family Friends have made their name on the radars of tastemakers thanks to their unique and often sweet take on fuzzy rock ‘n’ roll. With a new EP set to emerge this Friday, the London/Melbourne based outfit have prefaced its release with the fantastic ‘New’. Perhaps their most engrossing cut to date, it’s a summery and vibrant number which aligns woozy pop hooks with a college rock inspired guitars.

The Calm Fiasco- Just Don’t Care Anymore

Stalwarts of Scotland’s indie rock scene and a band that’s continued to evolve over the course of the last few years, what we have before us is the most fully realised incarnation of The Calm Fiasco’s sound yet. Building on the shift in tempo that was last year’s ‘Lose Control’, that rugged rock ‘n’ roll stomp is the driving force behind new single ‘Just Don’t Care Anymore.’ Embracing the carnage rather than residing on the more jangly side of indie, the result is a robust track which has resulted in  anticipation for their upcoming The Fear EP’ to spread far and wide.
