WHILE most of us are out attempting to bask in whatever sun we can, there’s a considerable fraction of the world’s population that are spending their time gearing up for the momentous summer of progress that it could be. Readying releases in dimly lit, often claustrophobic studios in a bid to make their presence felt far and wide, the rest of the planet may slow down or flock to warmer climates but the work is never done for the truly committed.

Sure to be populating playlists over the course of these humid days, here’s our rundown of the best new music that you need to be hearing this week.

Sheer Mag- Expect The Bayonet

Evoking the spirit of classic rock and renewing it in our minds like no other band, New Music Radar favourites Sheer Mag have had audiences absolutely fixated ever since the release of their groundbreaking EP’s. Capable of making even the staunchest indie rock purist to surrender to the force of their gargantuan riffs, their new album Need To Feel Your Love is a veritable journey into the hedonistic side of rock ‘n’ roll and yet feels incredibly vital. Set to play at Mono Cafe Bar alongside Anxiety and Bratakus this Saturday, ‘Expect The Bayonet’ is one standout track amid a deluge of highlights from their full length debut.

Goat Girl- Crow Cries

A group whose alluringly dark sound has been making considerable waves over the past year or so, Goat Girl constantly seem to be on the cusp of exploding and their latest work solidifies that. Released via the iconic Rough Trade, ‘Crow Cries’ is an unsettling piece of fuzzy pop that features gripping desert rock-inspired riffs and an adds an  overall air of menace to the proceedings.

The Ninth Wave- Reformation

Now set against a set of powerful  visuals, The Ninth Wave’s inspiring evolution is continuing to grow in stature within the minds of admirers. Macabre in its post punk-tinged sound but in no way despondent or without levity, ‘Reformation’ is an optimistic track that espouses a message of longing for personal growth and the pursuit of better days ahead ahead.. Maintaining the knack for a cathartic chorus that rose to prominence on tracks from last year’s double AA single, it nonetheless serves as an empowering piece of artfully minded pop that signifies the dawning of a blindingly bright future for the band as a whole.

Drones Club- International

purveyors of electronic pop music with an apocalyptic edge, London’s Drones Club are a group with a clear manifesto and it’s serving them very well. Inspiring cult-like devotion among fans that find themselves lured down their sonically rewarded rabbit hole, the collective are primed to play our own Tenement Trail in September and it’s a foregone conclusion that they’ll gather new fans to add to their flock.

Premiered on Huw Stephen’s Radio 1 show, the Tottenham-based group have delivered the fantastic ‘International.’

Filled with intrusive, prodding synth lines that wrap themselves around your brain and cause you to surrender to their power, their latest offering is Drones Club at their laser focused and antagonistic best and points towards a continuation of their auditory exploration. Uniformed in a manner that mirrors their near militaristic devotion but not afraid to divulge their underlying emotions, it’s a piece of work that you shouldn’t miss out on.
