INDEPENDENT VENUE WEEK returns for its fourth consecutive year in 2017 with the national event set to take place between Monday 23rd and Sunday 29th January.

Staged across 120 venues around the UK, the project has become a firm fixture on the music calendar in recent years and is designed to champion the small venues around the country and those who work in them. A national event that retains a strong local focus, the week-long celebration of live music will ensure those January blues are kicked into place with a whole range of special shows taking place around the UK.

With nearly 40,000 music fans lending their support to the cause in 2016, organisers hope to make a similar impact this year with curators such as SXSW, Domino Records, Tim Burgess and Huw Stephens bringing some of the best emerging talent to different venues across the week; the likes of Cabbage, Dream Wife, Shame and The Moonlandingz set to appear around the country.

An important platform for new artists and local communities, these small independent venues form the lifeblood of the music industry and with increasingly more of them under threat, it is crucial that we preserve them; a sentiment felt all too well in Scotland following the recent announcement about The Electric Circus in Edinburgh.

2017 will mark the event’s biggest year to date with 30 new venues taking part; The Bungalow in Paisley a new addition to the project in Scotland. And with Creative Scotland lending its support for the first time, there will be a series of special events happening around the country in venues such as Broadcast, Sneaky Pete’s, The Hug and Pint and Buskers to name a few.

With that in mind, TTV has picked out some of the gigs that are worth checking out.
