HECTORHECTOR Bizerk have revealed details of their new album, The Waltz of Modern Psychology in an exclusive interview with Tenement TV.

The band confirmed their new album will launch at a gig in King Tut’s this June and is the follow-up to 2013’s Nobody Seen Nothing. The band have released a series of EP records throughout 2014 and 2015, most recently The Bell That Never Rang last week.

Louie of Hector Bizerk confirmed the album is the soundtrack to a play written by Nicola McCartney and Birds of Paradise. He explained: “The play is called Crazy Jane and the protagonist is Cancan dancer Jane Avril.

“It’s a tale of how she was locked away in an asylum because she was different, because she had mental health issues and twitched uncontrollably. She was studied by the likes of Charcoat, Alzheimer and Tourette and was paraded as a freak show in The Moulin Rouge.”

He continued: “Our songs are focused on addressing some of the stigmas associated with being a mental health sufferer. We’ve written songs from the perspective of people with various mental health issues, depression, anxiety, autism…even from the point of view of someone who is incarcerated for being different.

“It’s a take on how people who suffer from such conditions are viewed as inferior.”

The play takes place in The Salpetriere Asylum in Paris at the turn of the century. Louie finished by saying: “The poor people who are patients there are put on display like a freak show for all the rich people to laugh at. It reminds me of modern TV shows like Benefit Street, or Jeremy Kyle where people are castigated for the situation they’ve ended up in.”

Tickets for the album launch are available now via The King Tuts website. The gig takes place on 6th June 2015.
