sneaky pete's edinburgh crowd

MUSIC fans can help support live music and their venues in Edinburgh thanks to a public consultation regarding the city’s grassroots live music scene.

This consultation has been requested by the Edinburgh Licensing Forum, which has asked the Board to consider a particular amendment to its existing policy, relating to amplified music in licensed premises – i.e. live and recorded music, transmitted through loudspeakers.

As it stands, a venue in Edinburgh can have their licence removed if neighbours think they can hear music from their homes. This policy is deemed as impractical and impossible to police. It is therefore being suggested that audible music is not necessarily a nuisance. There are no venues under immediate threat, however this change in policy will help protect venues in the future and is therefore vitally important.

The consultation is in email form, small comments can make a big impact. Fans must write to their council using the email address liquorlicensing@edinburgh.gov.uk and those in favour could state something such as they “support the change of wording in the licensing policy to read that amplified music should not be an audible nuisance.”

It is vital that musicians and fans of live music in Edinburgh take part in the consultation. The consultation will conclude on 22nd July 2016. Please help spread the word by sharing this article and encouraging others to email the council and support the change that could have a massively positive impact on live music venues in Edinburgh.
