KEITH Richards of The Rolling Stones appeared on Desert Island Discs at the weekend. One of the true icons of rock ‘n’ roll rebellion, the legendary Stone proclaimed that he “watches other people rebel now.” He played tracks from the likes of Etta James and Little Walter during the 45 minute episode on the series which has been broadcasting since 1942.

Playing a total of eight records, Richards – who has been making music for half a century – said that it was when his grandchildren came along that he began to grow up.

Laying down Chuck Berry as his first track, Richards described the song ‘Wee Wee Hours’ as having a brilliant piano part and not an obvious Berry song.

Presenter Kirsty Young described the Stone as: “one single living person that could personify rock ‘n’ roll.”
