AN
upcoming film which focuses on the life of famed songstress Nico has been announced.

Perhaps best known for her time with The Velvet Underground and her time among Andy’s Warhol’s Factory stable, the late German vocalist has always possessed a certain mystique which deviates from that of popular music’s most recognisable figures and the filmmakers intend to give an unprecedented insight into her life after fame.

Feauturing a series of flashbacks and dream sequences, director Susanna Nicchiarelli has cast rising star Trine Dynholm in the starring role and has made her intentions for making the film clear:

“The entire film is constructed following the inspiration of Nico’s music: her performances and the lyrics of her songs, It will tell us more than any other dialogue or situation in the film.”

Focusing around the less glamorous days of her later life and adapted from interviews with her son Ari and manager Alan Wise, Nicchiarelli sees the film as a chance to dispel some of the myths which sorround the singer’s life:

“Most people think, as Andy Warhol once said, that after her experience with Velvet Underground and the Factory —and after having had sex with most of the rock stars of those years — Nico simply ‘became a fat junkie’ and disappeared but is this how her life really went?”

Entitled ‘Nico-1988’; the same year in which she passed away in Ibiza, shooting is scheduled to start in the near future.
