IT has been revealed that Oasis turned down the chance to appear on the Trainspotting soundtrack; and for a pretty bizarre reason. It turns out they thought it was literally a movie about train enthusiasts.

Danny Boyle’s iconic 1996 film about a group of heroin addicts is widely recognised as having one of the best and most popular film soundtracks around, featuring classic tracks from the likes of Iggy Pop, Blur, Pulp and New Order. It just so happens that Oasis missed out because they didn’t quite grasp the concept of the movie.

The story stems from a question and answer session with Trainspotting producer Andrew Macdonald and costume designer Rachel Fleming.

“Danny [Boyle] is from near Manchester and he was very keen to have Noel Gallagher do something but there was a reason why he didn’t do it,” Macdonald said. “He came to the launch party in Cannes, but I don’t know why he didn’t do a piece of music.”

Fleming then added: “I met Noel at a thing the other week and he said to me: ‘I would have done something, but honestly I thought it was about train spotters. I didn’t know.’ That’s what he actually said.”

Meanwhile, an eagerly anticipated sequel to the cult classic is currently in the making, starring the original cast and set for release in January next year.
