PLANS for a  new Paolo Nutini Songwriting Scholarship have been unveiled to the public.

Ran by The University Of The West Of Scotland; which has a campus nestled in the heart of the prominent Scottish artist’s beloved hometown of Paisley, this newly announced venture is open to students from anywhere in the world with the inaugural recipient set to be in place for the beginning of the next academic year.

Funded by none other than Nutini himself, this iniative will allow for the student in question to hold a place in the UWS Masters Programme whilst the singer is also primed to partake in a workshop for music students.

Speaking in reference to the scholarship, course leader David Scott remarked:

“Our Masters in Music is always full of talented young people, and this initiative will help a talented songwriter to undertake studies with us at the university, regardless of their financial background. Paolo is a huge inspiration to young people in Paisley and beyond and we’re expecting great excitement across the university when he comes in to teach – from students from all disciplines. We are opening the doors now to applications from worthy candidates and we’re looking forward to a talent search like no other, assessing candidates on their experience or academic qualifications and their portfolio of work.”

In addition to Scott’s comments, UWS Principal Prof Craig Mahoney has also stated that, “this collaboration with Paolo extends the breadth of work we currently offer, but significantly allows us to help create new talent in the creative industries.”

Paolo Nutini will return to the stage this Friday at Paisley Abbey as part of this year’s The Spree Festival.
