BE CHARLOTTEANOTHER stellar year for Scotland’s thriving music scene is set to be celebrated at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMAs) in a couple of weeks’ time, as the long-standing event moves into its seventh year.

Having established itself as a staple part of the country’s musical calendar, this year’s SAMA nominations highlight the sheer variety and level of talent that Scotland continues to produce. With previous winners including the likes of Hector Bizerk, Fatherson and Model Aeroplanes, the awards seek to draw attention to the hard work of both their nominees and recipients, while providing them with well-deserved recognition and welcome support as they move forward and develop their careers.

Discussing the event’s development, founder Richy Muirhead said: “It’s great to see each award reflect the amazing emerging artists in the Scottish music scene. From acoustic to metal and everything in between, all 28 acts nominated should be very proud of the recognition.”

Featuring a number of acts from our own Tenement Trail lineup across its seven categories, this year’s awards will cover a range of genres such as hip-hop, metal, rock, electronic and acoustic, along with Best Live Act and Best Newcomer. Hosted by Jim Gellatly, the ceremony will take place at the Garage Glasgow on Wednesday 12th October and will feature performances from alt-rockers The Van T’s, electronic trio Stillhound and emerging grime artist MC Shogun, along with the promise of a surprise on the night.
