hector bizerkWITH T in the Park looming closer by the day, the anticipation is palpable for the festival’s debut year on its new premises of Strathallan Castle.

Undoubtedly Scotland’s biggest musical festival and one of Britain’s finest, it can almost be seen as less of a three day event and more of a rite of passage for any self-respecting music lover. Given that it has became such a cultural phenomenon, organisers have set up a series of low key gigs in pubs and clubs around the country that are sure to whet the appetite of those attending this year’s festival.

Laden with many of the exciting bands that will perform on this year’s T Break Stage as well as a notable contingent of Scotland’s biggest acts, here are the shows that you can check out this week.

Bars around Scotland taking part in what has been dubbed ‘T in the Pub’ include Glasgow’s King Tuts and Campus, Edinburgh’s Three Sisters and Wash Bar, Aberdeen’s The Bridge Street Social, Clarks on Lindsay Street in Dundee and Perth’s The Green Room.

With secret pop up sets also set to occur, here are the performances that have been announced thus far.

On Friday 3rd July,  Sauchiehall Street’s Campus will play host to not one, but three of Scotland’s upcoming talents; notably operating in a  in a range of different genres. Kicking things off in the venue will be the raucous Medicine Men, who recently impressed whilst at this year’s Isle Of Wight Festival. Following their set, T Break band Schnarff Schnarff, whose grunge tinged fare is sure to garner them new fans ahead of their performance at the festival on the 10th July.

The following evening, Edinburgh based producer Tisoki will take to the venue’s stage bringing his own brand of abrasive and engulfing dance music in tow.

One of the city’s most frequented pubs,  the patrons of Edinburgh’s Three Sisters will bear witness to a wide variety of music over the course of the weekend. On Friday 3rd July, T Break band Dead Man Fall will perform a full band set that is sure to pique interest, then on the 4th, both unique songstress Be Charlotte and the much loved dance/ alt-rock hybrid that is Crash Club will deliver enigmatic performances.

Staying within the nation’s capital, Wash Bar will be the sight of another game of Musical Bingo on Sunday 5th July after an earlier round at King Tuts last week.

Following sets from Model Aeroplanes and Our Future Glory in the past week, Clarks in Dundee will continue to host great bands as the festival edges ever closer; as T Break band and hotly touted Other Humans are set to perform in front of a packed venue on the 3rd. A twicket hunt is also scheduled for Sunday 5th July.

Aberdeen’s Bridge Street Social is an incredibly intimate venue and one which saw an acoustic set from Ded Rabbit last Saturday. Primed to follow in their footsteps on the 3rd July are the genre bending Spring Break, a Highlands based outfit who’ve impressed with recent showings at Xponorth and a multitude of other events. Bringing a rare acoustic performance to the venue, a twicket hunt will follow on Saturday.

Yet another of the artists slated to play T Break, Gerry Cinnamon has accrued a fervent fanbase due to his impassioned voice and equally arresting music. A singer-songwriter who’s on the ascent, catch him at Perth’s Green Room on Friday 3rd July.

Saturday 4th July sees an absolutely stacked line-up for the venue, with talented Dundonians Vladimir, the aforementioned Other Humans and TTV favourites Hector Bizerk all set to play. With Hector Bizerk garnering acclaim at a rate of knots as well as amassing a reputation as one of Scotland’s most visceral live acts, it’s sure to make for a night to remember.
