IT was 2013 when Baby Strange made their Tenement Trail debut at the festival’s first ever all-dayer in the dark underbelly of Broadcast on Sauchiehall Street, blowing everyone away with their hard and fast punk anthems. Now six years on from that occasion and the band are back this Saturday to headline Barras Art and Design as part of Trail’s big move to the East End of Glasgow.

A set that will be high on the list of priorities for all those in attendance, the trio have made a timely return with the announcement of a brand new single called ‘Bad Man in Prague’. Let’s just say, prepare to hear Baby Strange like you’ve never heard them before.

While recent singles have shown signs that the Glasgow outfit are ready to prod the boundaries of the anthemic punk template that informed their debut album ‘Want It Need It’, it’s safe to say that they have thrown all expectations out the window on this new offering.

Teaming up with the proprietor of one of Glasgow’s most popular watering holes, it is friend and collaborator John Jokey who takes the reins on ‘Bad Man in Prague’, delivering a stream of consciousness narrative in spoken word over a swaggering guitar-driven instrumental and warm glow of keys. With more of a new wave vibe than anything we’ve heard from the trio before, it’s like hearing the worlds of Baxter Dury and Fat White Family collide in the space of two intense minutes.

A refreshing return from the outfit, it has been paired with an equally menacing video which depicts a man in balaclava deliver his tirade against a flurry of strange images.

Catch Baby Strange at Tenement Trail in BAaD at 10.45pm. Meanwhile, you can check out the track and video below.
