The band: American four-piece Cage The Elephant are signed to Universal and have been around steadily since 2007. They’ve released three LP’s and this track is taken from their most recent record.

The sound: Featuring a dewy vocal from Matt Shultz, the track has a simplistic piano-led melody with the acoustic guitar driving its melancholy tone. This is much different from the band’s signature guitar driven psychedelic rock, especially the likes of ‘Spiderhead’ and ‘Black Widow’ from the same LP, where bass exudes the tracks.

The video: In a vintage cinematography style, the video flashes memory-like segments in the opening. Entirely in black and white, the video goes on to a tell a story which perfectly matches the sadness of the track. It was directed by Mark Pellington.

The lowdown: The song is taken from their 2013 album Melophobia. The band go on our with The Black Keys on 5th September 2014 playing America and hitting Europe in March. Check out our session with Cage the Elephant recorded whilst they were supporting Foals in Glasgow here.
