DANISH four-piece Communions have made a name for themselves in recent years for their vibrant hook-laden guitar-pop, but it seems that the steady stream of releases we have been treated to in recent years have been a mere warm-up in comparison with what’s to come from the band.

Having recently signed to Fat Possum, they have just announced the release of their debut album Blue, due to come out on February 3rd 2017. And with its confirmation comes one of its featured tracks ‘Got To Be Free’, a sure indication that the album is going to fulfil all expectations.

Brought to life with vibrant percussion, the bright guitar lines are immediately recognisable as part of Communions’ now signature sound before Martin Rehof’s stirring vocals come to the fore. Without the moodiness of their previous efforts, there’s something decidedly wistful about the delivery over the transcendent, dreamy melodies before a swelling chorus. The youthful angst of its lyrics “Something’s got a hold on me, I got to be free” is offset by the liberating, soaring quality of the music which surrounds it as they once again capture the spacious sounds of British post-punk bands while remaining completely modern and fresh; infectious guitar pop flecked with nostalgia. This divulges into a six minute epic, ending with a head-swirling finale as guitars and vocals let off the leash in compelling fashion.

‘Got To Be Free’ will be one of eleven tracks featured on the highly anticipated album Blue, which will also include the recently released ‘Eternity’ and ‘Don’t Hold Anything Back’.
