AFTER it was revealed that his newest album was all but reaching completion, beloved troubadour Father John Misty has given fans a rare glimpse into the conflicted man that jostles for position with his gregarious stage persona on ‘Mr Tillman.’

Centering around an exchange between exasperated hotel employees and the man behind last year’s sprawling dystopian epic Pure Comedy, the track’s wistful folk acts as the foundation for a number which sees Joshua Tillman contemplating where the ‘gimmick’ of the charismatic and enigmatic performer ends and the normal human being begins. More musically similar to  his breakout LP Fear Fun as opposed to the grandosity of his aforementioned double LP or 2015’s I Love You Honeybear, it sees him struggling to reconcile with the fame and fortune that he’s acrued over the last few years whilst unwilling falling into some of the tried and tested tropes of success that have been the ruin of so many. Embellished with the sardonic and at times farcical lyrical bent that we’ve come to expect from his material, it’s an intriguing addition to his catalogue that could well shine a light on the concept behind or direction of his oft-discussed new album.
