Girl Band

DUBLIN four-piece Girl Band have given fans a brutal taste of what’s to come from their upcoming, debut LP Holding Hands with Jamie, with a newly released track ‘Pears for Lunch’.

Very much a continuation of their experimental, abrasive punk sound, ‘Pears for Lunch’ is a track custom-built to pulverise venues, writhing audiences and their poor ears. Girl Band could just about fit into the same sonic niche as the likes of Japandroids and Parquet Courts but these boys revel in an altogether darker and more intense world of noise.

Over three and a half minutes, ‘Pears for Lunch’ builds relentlessly from a drawling vocal line reminiscent of Strange House-era Horrors and frenetic guitar work. Drums surge forward as industrial sounding guitars threaten to erupt but instead give way to an overwhelming wall of noise which consumes the track as it refuses to slacken the pace. With 30 seconds left, Girl Band descend into a short burst of utterly glorious chaos before suddenly and, fittingly, coming to an abrasively shuddering halt.

Holding Hands with Jamie is released via Rough Trade on 25th September 2015. The boys have also announced a UK tour. Scroll down to check out all of the dates.
