As always with Rhys it wasn’t a simple case of writing and recording songs, instead American Interior came on the back of an investigative concept tour around the US that Rhys did back in 2012. Produced alongside the album is a film, book and app.

The sound: ‘Liberty (Is Where We’ll Be)’ (listen below) is the latest single to be taken from that album. Its piano led, with a string section flittering in and out, and a pronounced and up-beat chorus that catches and holds the word ‘Liberty’, a word synonymous with the story of America, that Rhys unveils a small part of throughout the album.

The lowdown: Gruff Rhys will be touring the new album for the duration of the year, starting with an appearance at Glastonbury this coming weekend, followed by a tour of the UK, Europe and then the USA in November. He’ll be playing the Glasgow ABC on the 5th September.
