band that have stepped out from the shadows and staked their claim as one of Scotland’s; if not the UK’s, most essential rising bands, Glasgow’s very own Holy Esque have exceeded all expectations over the past year and now possess a colossal sound which would seem as at home in a stadium as it would in a rammed venue.

With their debut full length At Hopes Ravine set to propel them to unprecedented heights, the band have been so gracious as to provide their loyal fanbase with yet another taste of what treasures lurk within on ‘Oslo’.

Setting out with an air of lingering menace that recalls the kind of careful deliberation and gravitas that is present throughout The Jesus And Mary Chain’s Psychocandy, ‘Oslo’  soon bursts forth with the incensed vocals of frontman Pat Hynes and an inviting wall of instrumentation that is both comforting yet fraught with volatility.

A soundscape akin to that which shoegaze legends Slowdive carefully wove throughout their career; ‘Oslo’ is a track which is littered with contrasts,  containing an abundance of magnificent beauty yet it feels  somehow tainted by an unshakable sense that there’s both sadness and fury amid its splendour.

Atypical of the glorious sound that they’ve highlighted in the run up to its release, ‘Oslo’ has only increased our longing for At Hopes Ravine to emerge in its entirety.

Their debut album will be released on 26th February via Beyond The Frequency while ‘Tear’ and ‘Oslo’ will also be made available as a limited edition 7 inch.
