Howler ‘Don’t Wanna’

Published On: January 22, 2014

2014howler_Press_210114The band: Four Piece Howler are an indie-rock band hailing from Minneapolis, USA. Their first studio album ‘America Give Up’ was released in 2012 on rough trade records, and they are set to release their second – ‘World of Joy’ – in March this year.

The sound: Their new single Don’t Wanna is a testament to autonomy. It’s like a two and a half minute fuck you to the bandwagon and everyone jumping on it: “You don’t have to be anyone if you don’t want to, you don’t have to get a job if you don’t want to.” The lyrics are the centre-piece to this wonderfully simple song.

The Video: From the lyrics it could have been expected that the video would be one big smash the system extravaganza, but actually it’s quite an arty and well produced piece. It’s all black and white with some nice slow motion shots of the band and their instruments, and plenty of interesting effects.

The lowdown: ‘World of Joy’ comes out on the 24th March. That night they’ll start their UK and European tour in Bristol and the tour will come to a close on the 13th April in Antwerp Belgium.
