Julia Holter TTV
JULIA HOLTER’S expansive brand of baroque art-pop has been the cornerstone of her success since her debut album Tragedy was released in 2011. Holding close the very individuality which has earned coveted comparisons to the likes of Joanna Newsome and Kate Bush, Holter is now on the brink of the release of her fourth studio album Have You in My Wilderness which comes out on Domino Recordings on 25th September 2015.

Following ‘Feel You’, Holter has now put out new track ‘Sea Calls Me Home’.

‘Sea Calls Me Home’ is utterly gorgeous from the outset with Holter’s assured vocal leading the track. Backing vocals and instrumentation build, simmering beneath the songs instantly memorable melodies until drums and a wandering double bass take the reins and drive it all onwards. There’s an unshakeable clarity about Holter’s sound and her wonderful voice manages to remain the true focus throughout, despite a husky, whistled refrain of the track’s central melody and a sideway diversion into a jazzy brass solo.

At times it borders on being a little theatrical but the effortless purity that washes through the entire arrangement of the track and its spacious production ensures that the focus isn’t allowed to meander for too long and as Holter defiantly sings “I can’t swim, its lucidity”, she draws you straight back in.

Catch Holter live at The Hug and Pint on 13th November 2015. Tickets are available from The Hug and Pint and various other sources. All UK tour dates are listed below.
