THE BAND: She may be best known as the lead singer of  The Yeah Yeah Yeahs but Korean-born singer songwriter Karen O has been putting her own individual swing on the music scene since the release of the band’s 2003 debut Fever to Tell. Karen has consistently contributed since then with albums, collaborations and movie soundtracks; including the score to Spike Jonze’s rendition of classic children’s book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. With the release of her latest LP gaining plaudits since its released, she has unveiled the accompanying visuals for current single ‘Day Go By.’

THE SOUND: ‘Day Go By’ is the newest single from her recent album Crush Songs. Most of her solo work seems ready manufactured for indie movie soundtracks and this track is no different; it beautifully lacks dynamism. It’s laid back and her unmistakable vocals cradle each verse as if she was frightened to let them pass. The song feels like it’s telling the same story to everyone who hears it, and it doesn’t even have to try.

The Video: A whimsical look at romance that features timeless elements and hallmarks that enable it to depict a universal love story; the video for Day Go By is a very pleasant watch. With a constantly hazy aesthetic that provides a summery overtone, it centres upon a man and woman who are completely enchanted by each other and spend every waking moment together.

THE LOWDOWN:   Julian Casablanca’s Cult Records will release a limited edition 7” for of ‘Day Go By’ for Valentine’s day and you can get Crush Songs, released on September 15th of last year, now online and psychical.
