WITH every move on the world’s political stage seeming more and more perilous in recent times, it’s unsurprising that ambitious songwriters such as London’s Matt Maltese have attempted to document this atmosphere of Cold War-esque uncertainty.

Inspired by sardonic troubadours such as Leonard Cohen and Scott Walker, his latest single ‘As The World Caves In’ is the closest that anyone has came to capturing this lingering sense of helplessness which we’re all engulfed by.

Centered around one final tryst between Theresa May and Donald Trump before the world is plunged into nuclear induced darkness, the track is a lavishly produced rumination on our gloomy prognosis  that peers over the brink of annihilation with a sense of infectious gallows humour.

Maltese will join The Maccabees on their upcoming farewell shows including their date at Glasgow’s O2 Academy.
