The Brace Artwork

The band: Sunshine Social have been a well known force on the Glasgow music scene for some time now, steadily building up quite the following within the city. 2014 saw them up the ante somewhat with a successful Scottish tour, a huge performance on the T Break stage at T in the Park, and a sold-out gig at King Tuts. They have now completed the recording of their debut album, which will be appearing early next year.

The sound: ‘The Brace’ is the first single to be taken from the upcoming album. It features jangling guitar lines, and an upbeat feel despite the rather more serious lyrics: “Silence doesn’t bother me, it’s how to fill the hole”. It is an appropriate line as the band are not afraid of utilising silences, which they use to provide the contrast that gives rise to a euphoric close. Inwardly this song is intimate and full of depth; outwardly it is anthemic, addictive and hugely enjoyable.

The lowdown: ‘The Brace’ will be out in December and the debut album will follow shortly after, dropping sometime early next year. The band headline King Tut’s on December 18th and Edinburgh’s Cabaret Voltaire November 21st. Tickets available here.
