The band: California five-piece The Growlers are the epitome of gyspy-rock, mixing surf guitars and folky honky tonk. The band recently played Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona and are touring with Fat White Family.

The sound: What screams out of ‘Good Advice’ is the beat, much harder and tougher than The Growlers prefer. But with a healthy dose of bass and a perfectly-tuned jangley guitar sound, this track suits its faster pace. The band have self-described their sound as ‘surf-goth’ and with this track’s mix of reverb surf guitar and post-punk riff, its the perfect end of summer sound.

The lowdown:  ‘Good Advice’ comes from their upcoming fifth album Chinese Fountain, out 29th September on Fat Cat Records.  The 11-track album was recorded quickly in a week-and-a-half at Sea Horse Sands Studio in downtown Los Angeles and was produced by JP Plunier. ‘Good Advice’ is the second release from that album and is available on pre-sale now, click here to order. The band will tour the UK in the Autumn, playing Glasgow’s Broadcast on 15th November. Click here for tickets.
