The band: Glasgow’s The Phantom Band have released three records. Most recently Strange Friend which dropped earlier this year on Chemikal Underground. Named after a dish from the Orkney Islands in Scotland of mashed neeps and tatties, the band have created innovative music pushing psychedelic and rock boundaries.

The sound: Bass rock elements scream out of this new track with its driving rhythms and subtle-anthemia waves. ‘Clapshot’ is an impressive mix of psychedelic riffs and driving rock beats, much alike early goth-infused tracks from The Horrors.

The video: Described by the band as “fantastically odd” and shot by Scottish art duo Roger & Reid, the video was made by the artists for The Royal Scottish Academy / Morton Award for Lens Based work. Roger & Reid look at eccentrics and oddballs for inspiration making theatrical, impromptu films and performances. Historical sites feature in their films and this video was shot on location at Fyvie Castle in Aberdeenshire. Featuring masks and snakes, this video is in perfect tune with this mystic track.

The lowdown: The band will tour the UK in October hitting up venues including Hoots in Inverness and The Sage in Gateshead.
