THE BAND: The Tallest Man on Earth – real name Kristian Matsson – announced earlier this month details of the forth studio album. The announcement was issued through a short album trailer which saw a monologue running over various shots of Matsson in a rowing boat. Dark Bird Is Home follows 2012’s critically acclaimed There’s No Leaving Now, which landed the Swedish folk singer on various charts across the world.
THE SOUND: Despite being a markedly more expansive sound than previous works (perhaps his most expansive to date), the soul and emotion that has come to define Matsson still permeates ‘Sagres’ – the first track to be released from the forthcoming album. Seriously plaintive lyrics such as “I could drink until I sleep” are masterfully mitigated by joyful percussion, shimmering mandolin and euphoric harmonies.
THE LOWDOWN: The Tallest Man on Earth embark on a European tour in winter and play the Glasgow ABC on 20th October 2015. Dark Bird Is Home, the 4th studio album, is due for release on 12th May 2015 via Dead Oceans.
