KNOWN to flit between a variety of genres with consummate ease and fluidity, Glasgow band ULTRAS are a truly unique prospect in today’s music scene. Led by multi-instrumentalist Gav Prentice, the outfit are gearing up for the release of their eponymous debut album in April; a record they say will confront listeners both sonically and lyrically.

‘Team Handed’ is the first taster of what is to come and it’s a fine example of their eclectic approach to songwriting. Following the fierce, head-banging riffs of last year’s ‘Napoleon’, the track shows a completely different side to the band; instead allowing fragile harmonies to take centre stage over a moving backdrop of guitar and keys. An emotional and mournful lament, the track also offers comfort in its warm fusion of tones and textures.

Crafting a diverse sound that has the ability to reach for euphoric highs as well as melancholic lows, Ultras’ debut album is shaping up to be something special. It comes out on 28th April on Hello Thor Records and Instinctive Racoon.
