wesley fullerAUSTRALIAN singer-songwriter Wesley Fuller has shared details of his upcoming EP, Melvista, and has dropped one of the five tracks in preparation for its release.

‘Runaway Renee’ is instantly reminiscent of any work that Marc Bolan released, and he’s most likely a huge fan of the legendary musician. It doesn’t just delve into the sound of 60’s glam rock, it drafts influence from some of The Beatles’ most acclaimed melodies. Fuller has said that he wanted the drums to sound as though they were recorded in a “psychedelic vacuum” which are compressed beyond the point of lo-fi. In the song’s middle-eight, it explores a hallucinatory sea of hippy guitar work, which is only just behind the incalculably catchy chorus in terms of brilliance.

About the topic of the track, Fuller said: “The song came about one hot, sleepless summers night whilst messing around with a drum machine and a 12-string in my share house. I’d been trying for weeks to write a song about a girl who’d hooked up with my housemate. I didn’t know a single thing about her so I had no idea what to write about but I had the melody for what would become Runaway Renee.”

Fuller’s debut EP is released on 8th July 2016 through 1965 Records and will be available through 12″ vinyl or download. The EP can be pre-ordered now. According to a press release, UK tour dates are expected shortly.
