UNFETTERED by the fact that everything else on the planet appears to be heading down the tubes, the dizzyingly exciting world of new music remains as fruitful as ever. Filled with inspiring hooks, innovative guitars and so much more, here’s the very best that the week has had to offer from our nation and further afield.

The Magic Gang-  How Can I Compete?

A band that takes massive strides forward with every foray into the public eye, Brighton’s The Magic Gang have been earmarked for greatness ever since we caught wind of ‘No Fun’ back in 2015. Two EP’s down the line and the band’s alluring indie rock sound maintains every ounce of its charm on ‘How Can I Compete?’, a track which attests to a broadening of their horizons as they aim to make as big a splash as possible in 2017. Brimming with lightheartedness in its instrumentation yet intertwined with a degree of unmistakable determination, this is a band that are pushing the parameters of their sound and are likely to reap the rewards for doing so.

FOREIGNFOX- Bonfire

Armed with a stirring and deeply emotive sound, ForeignFox catapulted themselves into everyone’s gaze last year with a string of pivotal performances including a set on the T Break Stage. Featuring an assist from Pronto Mama’s Ciaran McEneny on trumpet, their new track ‘Bonfire’ is a contemplative and staggering affair awash with painstakingly impassioned vocals and a swelling, atmospheric sound that will stand them in good stead as they continue to grow.

Spinning Coin- Raining On Hope Street

Signed to the revered Domino Recording Company, Glasgow’s Spinning Coin have returned with the ethereal new single ‘Raining On Hope Street. Rendered in a beautiful dream-pop inspired fog, the track’s dissonant edges and sweet melodies come together to formulate their most affecting track to date. Recorded at the city’s Green Door Studios, it’s evident that the band have no intention of losing the inventiveness that brought them to the attention of major labels and have continued to push themselves forward on this latest outing.

The Wooden Sky – Swimming In Strange Waters

Although it may have came out in mid January, we couldn’t omit this fantastic track from Canada’s The Wooden Sky. Drenched in a psychedelic malaise akin to that of Blue Cheer and Vanilla Fudge, ‘Swimming In Strange Waters’ is a rousing slice of effervescent rock ‘n’ roll which flits from lighter than air to entirely arresting at a moment’s notice. The band will be making their way to The Hug & Pint on the 16th February and it’s a show not to overlook,
