MAY is promising to bring some great music to a venue near you, and with the weather (hopefully) warming up, why not treat yourself to a few more gigs before festival season gets underway! We’ve rounded up some of the key gigs you don’t want to miss this month.

Michael Kiwanuka @ O2 Academy, May 6

Upgraded from the Barrowlands to O2 Academy, Michael Kiwanuka finally brings his postponed live show to Glasgow this week. The Mercury Prize winner and BRIT-nominated artist is touring his third album ‘KIWANUKA’ – a stunning record written straight from the heart, filled with fuzzy instrumentation and some of his best songwriting to date.

Road To the Great Escape @ Various venues, May 6-7

Leading up to one of the UK’s best festivals for emerging talent, the Road to the Great Escape hits Glasgow early this month, taking place at King Tut’s, The Garage Attic Bar, G2, and The Garage. Featuring acts such as  Dead Pony, Swim School, VLURE, Medicine Cabinet and more, there’s an option to buy tickets for a single show or a multi-venue pass.

Confidence Man @ Liquid Room, Edinburgh, 7 May, and Saint Luke’s, Glasgow, 8 May 

The ultimate party starters, Confidence Man are back on UK soil touring their recent critically acclaimed album ‘TILT’. You can expect plenty of gleeful pop bangers, humorous quips and synchronised dance moves at these gigs – pure escapism at its finest.

Joesef @ The Lemon Tree Aberdeen May 19 and @ The O2 Academy Glasgow May 21

Glasgow’s Joesef has quickly become a household name since his first live performance only three years ago. Having just sold out his European tour, the rising star will hope to repeat the triumph that was his Barras show last October when he returns to home soil in a few weeks time.

Bemz @ King Tut’s, May 19

Coming off his recent win of BBC Introducing’s Scottish Act of the Year, Bemz is putting Scottish hip hop on the map. The venues are only going to get bigger for this artist – so don’t miss the chance to see him in an intimate venue like King Tut’s.

STONE @ King Tut’s, May 21 

Liverpool’s Stone are heading to King Tut’s and it is sure to be a show full of raucous punk rock energy. Taking inspiration from bands like IDLES & Sonic Youth, Stone are just heating up. Support will come from Eli Smart and Pizza Crunch.

Lorde @ Usher Hall Edinburgh, May 26 

Lorde is an artist who needs no introduction. After four years away, she is back and with the success of 2021’s Solar Power, this show will be one to remember. Tickets are sold out, but you may be lucky enough to grab a resale ticket !

Van Ives @ Oran Mor May 29

Scotland’s own Van Ives are bringing their incredible sound to Óran Mòr on May 29th. Known for their intimate and innovative live shows, this gig comes just days after the launch of their eagerly anticipated debut album.
