BABY STRANGE are back. We were delighted to announce the iconic Glasgow band will be co-headlining this year’s TENEMENT TRAIL to mark the tenth anniversary of their acclaimed debut album ‘Want It Need It’. They feature among a strong first wave of acts including co-headliners Brogeal, as well as Clifford, Willie J Healey, The Orielles and many more.

A true full-circle moment for both the band and the festival, the Glasgow outfit are reuniting for one night only in what is sure to be a landmark show. A defining part of TENEMENT TRAIL’s story, they previously appeared at the inaugural event in 2013, followed by a surprise last-minute set in 2018, and then in 2019, when they headlined BAaD at the festival’s first year in Glasgow’s East End. Those sets have secured their place in the festival’s long and storied history, and now they’re back at the top of the bill.
A band we’ve followed since their very formative years, Baby Strange’s legacy is undeniable. Fiercely DIY in their ethos, they willfully and committedly forged a career entirely on their own terms, and swept us all along on the exhilarating ride. We’ve been with them for the whole journey – from those very early sweaty gigs in Glasgow’s sticky basement venues to supporting their musical heroes to some of the biggest festival stages in the country.
A formidable force in the live arena, their punk-fuelled anthems struck a chord with the local music scene, before catapulting them to audiences all over the UK and Europe. Their debut album ‘Want It Need It’ from 2016 stands as a snapshot of those early years – raw, relentless, and packed full of classic indie punk anthems like ‘Pleasure City’, ‘Pure Evil’, ‘VVV’ and ‘California Sun’. They followed this up with numerous EPs and singles – the songwriting still excellent, but adding a more mature and dynamic edge to their raw, punchy indie.
Of course, their legacy will always be synonymous with those iconic Club Sabbath nights in The Priory – a Sunday night tradition that soon became a rite of passage for many bands in the city. A night that saw people jump from partygoers on the fringes to playing in bands of their own, the band’s Club Sabbath paved the way and nurtured many of the city’s raucous guitar bands over the years – the likes of The Lapelles, Gallus, Dead Pony, Declan Welsh, The Dunts, Lucia & The Best Boys, Rascalton and Voodoos to name a few.
It therefore feels fitting that, after first announcing their hiatus in 2023, they bid farewell properly – headlining the city’s most famous venue .
