Scotland’s emerging music scene is as diverse as ever, and once again, BBC Introducing in Scotland has narrowed hundreds of submissions down to five artists who are making waves in their own way. From intimate songwriting to electronic experiments, modern rock, and country-pop, these are the musicians who they’ve earmarked as shaping the sound of 2026.

Now in its fifth year, the five finalists will perform at Saint Luke’s, Glasgow, on Tuesday 24 March, competing for the title of BBC Introducing Scottish Act of the Year 2026. The event will then be broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland on Friday 27 March o BBC Introducing in Scotland.

Alongside the coveted title, the winning act will receive a professional recording session with BBC Radio Scotland, a performance slot at TRNSMT Festival and a bespoke PR campaign to support their career development.

Here’s a closer look at who’s on the shortlist.

Alice Faye

Alice Faye writes songs that blend confessional storytelling with retro-pop influences. Her sound draws from musicals, 1940s jazz, 60s folk, and classic chanson, giving her music a timeless, theatrical edge without ever feeling forced. With an incredible voice matched by real songwriting prowess, she’s forged a distinctive presence on Scotland’s scene.

“Ahhhhh! So, so honoured to be included in the shortlist for BBC Introducing Scottish act of the year 2026! Never saw it coming and just genuinely absolutely chuffed!”

J Wax – Edinburgh

Originally from Tayport, J Wax is a DJ and producer whose work spans genres and styles. Since his debut EP Port to Port in 2019, he has built a reputation for thoughtful, dynamic productions, releasing on respected labels including Future Classic and PRESSURE. His approach blends precision with experimentation, creating music that’s both immersive and energetic.

“I’m feeling good about the final, albeit still a bit surprised about the whole thing! I’m interested to see how my minimix sounds compared to the other finalists, but I’m excited to showcase my productions!”

Lo Rays

Lo Rays are a modern rock band mixing glitchy synths, pop hooks, and guitar-driven arrangements. Their music is often paired with bold, DIY visuals, earning them a strong online following. Recently signed to Denmark-based Prime Collective, Lo Rays bring a confident, contemporary sound that balances melody and intensity.

“We honestly still haven’t taken it in that we are playing the final. We can’t thank the BBC Introducing team enough for the support they have shown us throughout the years and for giving heavier, alternative music a platform. We are so excited to be bringing some post-apocalyptic vibes to the Scottish Act of the Year 2026!”

Katie Nicoll

Katie Nicoll’s acoustic-led songwriting is intimate and assured. She released her first single at 16 and has since played at our very own TENEMENT TRAIL, released a string of well-received singles and carved out a sound that is defined by its melodic clarity with lyrical honesty.

“I feel so honoured to have been selected for this competition – getting the news that I’d made it to the final was a crazy feeling and I can’t believe I get to take part alongside some of Scotland’s best new musicians. My band and I are all so excited to perform :)”

Riley

Riley merges Glasgow grit with Nashville-influenced country-pop, crafting songs that balance storytelling and melody. Her music represents a new generation of Scottish country artists with an eye on international reach, combining polished production with emotionally driven songwriting.

“Being shortlisted for BBC Introducing Scottish Act of The Year is a real honour. I’ve loved the BBC intro show for years, so getting the chance to perform at my dream Glasgow venue, St Luke’s, with my band and best friends, supported by BBC Introducing, already feels like a huge win”

The final at Saint Luke’s promises to be a showcase of some of the most exciting emerging talent in Scotland today. With BBC Introducing providing airplay, live performance opportunities, and career support, these five artists are poised to take the next step in their musical journeys.
