SCOTTISH singer-songwriter Tamzene spoke to us about lockdown, her plans for the future and isolation playlist essentials.

What’s the last thing you said in the band WhatsApp?

“Got a gig next year mates 🚀🚀🚀 (referring to TRNSMT 2021) but our group chat so far has been a collection of uplifting memes and hilarious daily horoscopes…”

How do you feel about the current state of the world and the effect it will have on the music industry?

“It’s a heartbreaking time for the global community, and it’s been difficult to read and hear about the impact this pandemic has been having on individual lives. I feel that – in my lifetime – art has never been so important, and it’s never been this crucial that we share all of the love, creativity and positivity that we can with others as artists. Everybody needs music, and although we’re all feeling the loss of our gigs and the pressure on our venues, I am confident that because of that need, the industry will find its way through this time.”

What 5 bands/artists are on your isolation playlist?

“I recently discovered ‘Abimaro’, an incredible female artist with the most soothing and special voice! I’ve been jamming to Scottish babes ‘Walt Disco’ too, who I had the pleasure of meeting recently. ‘Rhys Lewis’ is a current favourite and I’ve also gone back to old favourites of mine such as Norah Jones and Alicia Keys.”

When the world gets back to normal what’s the first thing you are going to do?

“Hopefully get as many of my friends together in one place and give them all a massive hug. I haven’t spent this much time at home since before studying, so I’m really missing everyone. Maybe before that I’ll go to my favourite lunch spot in Inverness – Velocity cafe.”

What’s next for you career-wise?

“I’m going to be releasing my first EP song-by-song over the next few months. And hopefully planning some live shows for when that starts to look possible again. And as always writing and collaborating as much as possible, even if it’s over Zoom for a while longer!”
