MAN OF MOON are a bit of an enigma. Their tale is an exciting one. Just two lads from Edinburgh who made tunes for a laugh and next thing you know they’re hailed as one of Scotland’s biggest successes reaping support from the all corners, regulars on festival bills and national radio. In this latest TTV TALKS interview with the Edinburgh band, we talk touring, festivals and arseholes…..

“I think we’ve always been about our live shows as a band! We’ve always tried to make the set flow and go on a kind of journey instead of just bashing out 8 tunes. We try and create an atmosphere in each set I guess. It feels class to know that some people are genuinely enjoying the sounds were making and the tunes were bringing out. Totally amazed by some of the feedback to the single and EP.

“The top in my eyes is having a really strong, dedicated following, being able to fill a small cap room anywhere you go and writing the tunes that you want to write. Not what some arsehole is telling you to write.”

As a band on the lips of many artists in the scene, we were curious to find out who Man of Moon had enjoyed discovering on the live scene this year. They said: “It would have to be Sly and The Family Drone in Brighton. We came across them by accident because they were playing upstairs in a pub we were at and we only caught the last 15 mins of there show. But they’re live show was absolutely crazy; tops off, jumping about on amps and the whole crowd was smashing drums that they’d handed out.

“There’s so many really good young bands and performers in Scotland right now. The scene is so strong and friendly. We’re proud to be part of it, Glasgow has been really good to us and has become a home from home although we’re from Edinburgh.

“We’re both big fans of Mogwai and The Twilight Sad. I love some of the tunes Young Fathers are bringing out. Hector Bizerk, Neon Waltz and Redolent are all bands we really like too.”

Man of Moon were on the bill for T in the Park again this year, returning for the second consecutive year: “We were totally cheesing to be asked to play again. We had a great time last year and it was such a good experience. Were were buzzing to see Faithless and LCD Soundsystem. Plus they give you all the Tennent’s you want, so who’s complaining!?”

Highlights of the year so far? “We played a show in Glasgow in the Priory this year and the whole crowd went fucking mental in the last tune which was pretty special. Defo a gig to remember.

“And when we we were on our way to see The Stone Roses in Manchester, the bus driver wasn’t playing any tunes so at the service station I bought a Kinks best of CD for a tenner and the driver blasted it the rest of the journey! Result.”
