SET to take to the stage at TENEMENT TV’s IWD TKVR on March 6th, Medicine Cabinet chatted to us all about their plans for the show, their inspirations and their playlist essentials.
“Incredibly buzzing. TTV have offered us so much support as a band over time, and it’s amazing to be able to stand with them in celebrating something so important to us.”
With a sound and aesthetic that seems theatrical and eccentric, the band spoke of how this represents them, and their inspirations.
“It’s definitely just what we’re like: our music helps us express ourselves, even when that sometimes involves theatrics to help discover something more genuine about us.”
“My mum. All of our mums. And Dolly Parton, for her flawless identity work and ruthless femininity.”
Medicine Cabinet are one of an incredible wave of Scottish and British artists making waves in 2020, a network of supportive women that the band feel has helped them grow.
“Absolutely! We first met Swim School at the Glasgow based female-centric showcase Queens of Noise last year, and it was only our third gig. They really took a chance on us. From there, we met a lot of people genuinely invested in elevating women and people with subordinate gender identities in the creative world, and we find more the more we do. We also continually receive support from friends, and people who are tired of not hearing their own narratives in the art they consume. It’s about time we made space for them.”
“We are so excited for everyone to realise how damn normal being women in these spaces is. Hey everyone: see you everywhere.”
