APPLE MUSIC
have made the controversial move of announcing plans to host unlicensed streams and mixes.

Brokering a new deal with digital content distributor Dubset Media Holdings, it will allow the sort of unlicensed mixes, remixes and mashups that are commonplace on sites such as Soundcloud and Mixcloud to be hosted on Apple’s recently minted streaming platform.

Despite being previously ineligible due to copyright infringement and unlicensed samples, the new partnership with Dubset will allow for legality due to a software known as Mixbank.

The crucial selling point of Mixbank is the fact that it enables them to analyse a remix or  long-form mix, identify recordings within the file and subsequently pay record labels, music publishers and artists accordingly.

Thus far, Dubset has attained agreements with over 14,000 publishers and labels.

Already garnering support from industry figures, globe-trotting DJ Steve Aoki has preached its virtues by proclaiming that ““Remixes are a huge part of our culture - they allow DJs and fans to put our own creative spin on music. Apple working with Dubset now is a really simple solution to something traditionally complex, and allows everyone to make money on this content for the first time.”
