BBC RADIO 1 has announced that it will be dropping its In New Music We Trust playlist as the station undergoes a series of further changes.
The news comes with the arrival of the new Radio 1 Specialist Chart with Phil Taggart, which is created by bringing together the tracks most loved by specialist presenters and listeners and will be published on a weekly basis at the same time as the Radio 1 Playlist.
In place of the INMWT playlist, two new spaces have been added to the station’s C list, giving more room for new music crossing over from specialist. Designed to give breakthrough artists some mainstream airplay and to introduce listeners to new acts, it is unclear what future new music will have on the station without the INMWT feature. However Radio 1 have said that the move has been made due to young people’s changing listening habits and to give breakthrough acts greater exposure if they are added to the main playlist.
