BBC+Radio+1++new+logoWORLD-RENOWNED institution BBC Radio 1 has announced plans to play a full 10 hours of music from indie labels.

Set to happen this very evening (4th July 2016), the station will deviate from their regularly scheduled programmes at 6pm to play not only music from those on the world’s most revered independent labels and lesser known artists on smaller imprints but will also air interviews with various high-profile figures that work at them.

Billed as a celebration of this crucial component of this music industry, Radio 1’s head of music Chris Price has stated that ‘The UK’s independent label community is one of the most vibrant in the world. We want to celebrate the part it plays in making Britain one of the most creative and respected music hubs on the planet.”

Scheduled to pay tribute to the most seminal indie labels of all time at 9pm, DJ Huw Stephens has described this move as a fitting way to celebrate the debt which music fans owe to indie labels:

“They release incredible music, take risks on artists and nurture and support some artists who might not be given that support early on,” he continued. ”Their success stories are huge, and we’re super excited to highlight our constant support of the great work the independent labels do.”

The ten hours of indie-centric content will begin at 6pm GMT.
