GLASGOW is listed in the top ten of world hot spot tourist destinations; its diverse music culture responsible for the ranking.

One of the world’s leading travel publishers Rough Guides released the list placing Glasgow in the number nine spot saying: “The River Clyde, which once ferried tobacco traders towards the city, now flows past smoking-hot artists’ studios and museums.”

Since opening in September last year, The SSE Hydro has brought international names to the Glasgow city, it’s neighbouring capital Edinburgh unable to compete with Glasgow’s rich live venues around the city.

Home to DF Concerts, Scotland’s largest music promoter, Glasgow boasts venues like King Tuts, 02 Academy, the newly-opened small capacity Broadcast, the breathtaking Fruitmarket and the infamous Barrowlands Ballroom in the east end.

VisitScotland’s chairman Mike Cantlay added: “Glasgow, as quite rightly pointed out by Rough Guides, has become a ‘cultural powerhouse’, boasting a dazzling array of venues, events and attractions.

2014 will see the city host the MTV EMA’s in the SSE Hydro area, which is renowned for bringing outstanding international talent to its ceremony’s.

Rio is listed at the number one spot, the city will host the 2016 Olympics. The only other UK city listed is Liverpool, Rough Guides said of the city: “What began with the gradual redevelopment of the Albert Dock area has evolved into a full-blown cultural renaissance. Liverpool, once named the world’s pop music capital, has rediscovered its mojo.”
