ONE of Glasgow’s most iconic music venues will be temporarily closing its doors to customers this month in order to undergo a £250,000 refurbishment.

MacSorley’s on Jamaica Street was originally reported to have closed down forever last February, but reopened four months later much to the delight of their Glasgow patrons. The pub has now received a significant amount of investment that will see it receive a huge internal refurbishment, new external signage and an outside drinking area.

As one of the city’s leading music pubs, MacSorley’s has been open for over 100 years and the new investment will reflect this; focusing on its massive history and heritage with bespoke artwork from Glasgow-based artists, Social Recluse.

Reinforcing its dedication to live entertainment, the new look pub will continue to host weekly open mic sessions as well as Thursday night slots for new emerging bands.

The new publican Mickey Mullan said: “MacSorley’s is a Glasgow institution and I am looking forward to building even further on its reputation as a music and entertainment venue. We currently have live music four times a week and I want to extend that to every night of the week.”

“Encouraging new talent is really important to me and I see MacSorley’s as playing a major role in giving talented new bands and singers their first step on the ladder.”

MacSorley’s closes on Wednesday 18 January and will re-open on Friday 24 February.
