KINTYRE Songwriter’s Festival returns for its 10th anniversary this year with a stellar line-up featuring some of Scotland’s best up and coming artists.
Set to celebrate the special occasion in style, organisers have expanded this year’s event with a new larger venue in Campbeltown Town Hall, a later license and more musical acts than ever before.
Taking place across the 28th-30th April, the Friday night at Whisky Macs will be headlined by rising stars The Van T’s with support from The Twisted Melons, Gullion, The Shift, Sleeping With The Enemy and many more. Meanwhile, Saturday in the town hall will be headlined by the inimitable Pronto Mama, currently preparing for the release of their debut album Any Joy. They will be joined by the legendary Jesse Rae, singer-songwriter Chrissy Barnacle and well-known locals Thom MacEwan, David Bisset and Gareth Croll. The festival will end on Sunday with a special acoustic performance from Mull Historical Society alongside appearances from Emme Woods, The Gilchristians, David Fee and The Strunts and Violent Echo.
Organiser Pete Cockburn said “It’s great to see top talent from around the country coming to Campbeltown but allowing the audience to see brand new local talent emerging is what the festival is all about. With 6 hours of music per night and open stages in the afternoon the festival has something for everyone”.
Since its inauguration in 2007, the event has established itself as a hot bed for new musical talent; giving local bands and artists the opportunity to showcase their original material alongside those from further afield.
Tucked away in the small and remote town of Campbeltown, it has become a unique fixture on the Scottish festival calendar thanks to its intimate venues and strong community spirit. While it has been known to focus on local artist development, it has also attracted a number of established names over the years such as Owl John (the side-project of Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison), Kathryn Joseph, Louis Abbott, Rachel Sermanni, Be Charlotte and Ivan Drever.
