THE
iconic Led Zeppelin are set to stand trail over allegations that the classic ‘Stairway To Heaven’ stole its opening chords from another band.

While the Led Zeppelin IV standout is arguably one of the most renowned tracks of the 1970’s and a cornerstone of rock ‘n’ roll,  representatives for Los Angeles based rock band Spirit have long maintained that its instantly recognisable opening strains were in fact lifted from their 1968 track ‘Taurus’.

In a ruling made on Friday, US judge Gary Klausner deemed the two compositions to be similar enough that Robert Plant and Jimmy Page should stand trail in front of a jury and may be found guilty of copyright infringement.

With the lawsuit brought by Michael Skidmore; the trustee of the late Randy California of Spirit, the trail has now been set for the 10th May.
