POPULAR High Street pub and Tenement Trail venue McChuills have set up a Crowdfunder to avoid closing for good.

The pub is is currently fighting for its survival due to the coronavirus pandemic, with owners saying they have exhausted all avenues of funding. They recently re-opened as a cafe in a ‘last-ditch’ attempt to avoid permanent closure.

The Crowdfunder, which was set up on Friday, has so far raised over £15k over nearly 600 donations. The aim is to raise £30k before the end of the month.

McChuills wrote on Facebook: “It is with a heavy heart we need to ask for our loyal customers to help to keep McChuills alive. Over the recent months we have exhausted every avenue of funding and what little we have received has not been enough to break even.

“We have adapted both the pub and it’s purpose more than once, going from a live venue and bar to where it stands now as a daytime cafe, in an effort to remain open and save jobs, but we are sadly facing closing the doors for good in the very near future.

“So, we need a lifeline. If you can contribute in any way, no matter how small, please do so and whether you can or not, please share this. Your support now, as it has for the last 27 years, means the world to all of us here at McChuills.”

The crowdfund campaign ends on December 11.  You can make a donation HERE
