THE NATIONAL have taken to social media to share a mysterious new video which appears to indicate that new music is on the way.

The band have teased their long-awaited comeback with a 30 second clip featuring the phrases ‘Sleep Well Beast’ and ‘The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness’. In the style of a news programme, the grainy clip is set against a rather strange backdrop of dissonant electronic sounds. It remains unclear as to whether ‘Sleep Well Beast’ will be the name of their new album.

The video follows frontman Matt Berninger’s earlier revelation that the band had been creating songs that were “much more like weird, math-y, electronic-y stuff.” Either way, the teaser video is bound to stir excitement among fans who have been waiting patiently for new material from the outfit since 2013’s Trouble Will Find Me. The band are booked to play a huge slot at Glastonbury this year on the Pyramid Stage before Foo Fighters.
