NILEFUNK and disco innovator Nile Rodgers has won GQ’s Icon Of The Year Award at last night’s ceremony.

Honoured alongside other recipients of ‘Men Of The Year’ awards at the event in The Turbine Hall at The Tate Modern such as Billy Connolly, Calvin Harris, Mark Ronson and Star Wars actor John Boyega, the founding member of Chic and acclaimed producer received the award for his enduring service to music over countless years.

Having experienced a career renaissance in the 21st Century thanks to collaborations with artists such as Daft Punk and always a hit at live shows due to his stellar back-catalogue of classic tracks, GQ said of the decision that “the musical timeline of the 20th and 21st century is riddled with Nile Rodgers’ work and influence to the point where it would be an injustice to call him anything but an icon.”
