NIRVANA’S In Utero re-release marks 20 years since the original record hit on 13th September 1993. Fans can re-live the unforgettable record created around heroin, record company politics and fame and which ultimately saw the fall of Kurt Cobain just seven months later in April 1994.
“Kurt didn’t want to sell records to cunts, so he didn’t make a commercial record. Otherwise you end up selling records to people you didn’t like at school.”
Featuring B-sides, demos and live recordings, In Utero celebrates the time that was Nirvana’s. As a follow-up to the iconic Nevermind, In Utero was recorded by Steve Albini over two weeks in Pachyderm studio in Cannon Falls, Minnesota.
And what better way to resurrect Cobain from the grave, than to pick up one of his masterpieces and relive it in its remixed, re-mastered, re-packaged glory.
The piece of work is one of the 1990’s triumphs. And as high as the band were during this time- in mind, body and fan-base- the shocking low that followed just months later with the suicide of Cobain blew any artistic praise out of the water. Ironically so it seems, because Nirvana didn’t want the praise, the fans or the adoration- they just wanted the music. And so, in 2013 as the music lives on, it’s time to relive the creative mind of Nirvana.
Revolutionary rarities are included on the three disc album. A confused, scatty, distressed Cobain shines through. With tracks named Rape Me, I Hate Myself and I Want to Die and even the obscure Marigold; In Utero is a look into the mind of someone who was painfully finding it hard coming to terms with who he was and what life could be.
The re-mastered In Utero is released on 23rd September 2013.
