nme-logoLONG running music magazine NME has announced that it shall undergo a major brand transformation. The historic publication; which has been at the forefront of the music industry since 1952, has proclaimed that it will be now be free to all and distributed via universities, retail partners and stations.

The model; which appears to be similar to that of pioneering publications such as Shortlist; is in line with a change in direction for the brand which sees them seguing into new areas.

Whilst claiming that music based content will remain the focal point, they will expand to look at stories pertaining to ‘film, fashion, television, gaming, politics and technology.’

The new model will take effect in September 2015, with 300,000 free copies being made available. New digital products and a renovation of the website will also occur.
