THE full line-up of exclusive releases for this year’s Record Store Day has been announced including contributions from David Bowie, Nirvana, Best Coast, Run The Jewels, The Who, Blossoms and many more.
An institution within today’s culture, Record Store Day puts an emphasis on restoring music shops to the bustling glory of their heyday and is supported almost universally by musicians and labels alike.
Set to take place on the 16th April, organisers have just revealed its full line-up for this year’s event and it’s safe to say that it’s absolutely filled with desirable items.
Whilst the entirety of this year’s releases and participating stores has been made available via their official website, we’ve provided a brief list of our personal highlights below:
Best Coast- Best Coast 7″: Two unreleased tracks from the band’s lauded California Nights LP will be released as part of the festivities.
Blossoms- You Pulled A Gun On Me 7″: Arguably the leaders of the newest crop of rock ‘n’ roll outfits, Blossoms have harked back to the formative stages of their career and will release the original recording of breakout track ‘You Pulled A Gun On Me’ alongside a live take on Electronic’s Getting Away With It’ from a sold out show at Manchester’s Ritz.
Cats Eyes- Chameleon Queen 7″: The latest single from Horrors frontman Faris Badwan’s collaboration with Rachel Zefira.
Circa Waves Something Like You 7″: Originally commissioned for this year’s War Child compilation, Circa Waves will make their take on Michael Head’s cult classic alongside a previously unreleased track from the Young Chasers sessions.
David Bowie- The Man Who Sold The World/TVC15 picture disc 7″: two classic tracks from the late icon’s storied career will be released in beautiful picture disc format.
The Doors- Live At The Aquarius Theatre Vol 1″: Comprised of a classic Doors performance from July 1969, live at the Aquarius Theatre is a triple album and will be available on startling blue vinyl for the very first time.
Foals- Rain/Daffodils 7″- The Oxford based outfit’s previously unreleased track ‘Rain’ will emerge alongside the band’s cover of Mark Ronson’s Kevin Parker assisted hit ‘Daffodils’.
Hozier- Take Me To Church 12″: Sure to be a sought after item, Hozier’s platinum selling single ‘Take Me To Church’ will be released on limited edition picture disc.
Ian Brown- Solarized: The Stone Roses frontman’s fourth solo album, this will be the first time that it has ever been made available on vinyl.
Iggy And The Stooges- Metallic KO: 1976 live album from Iggy And The Stooges pressed on limited edition metallic vinyl.
Joe Strummer- Gangsterville 12″ black vinyl single: Released ahead of an upcoming anthology of the iconic figure’s solo output, the single’s sleeve will feature never-before-seen artwork by Strummer and Josh Cheuse.
METZ/Mission Of Burma- Good, Not Great/Get Off 7″: Punk outfits METZ and Mission Of Burma take turns covering each other’s material on this special marble yellow 7″.
Nirvana- Live On KAOS FM 1987: An early live recording of the band released on 12″ for the first time ever.
Ocean Colour Scene- Mosely Shoals 2LP: Unavailable on vinyl since its release 20 years ago, this seminal brit-pop album will be released on red vinyl.
Pinact- Stand Still And Rot: The debut album from Glasgow based alt-rockers available on green vinyl
Primal Scream- Mantra For A State Of Mind 12″- Bobby Gilliespie’s legendary outfit take on The S Express’s signature track.
